That's ironical!
Yes, I know ironical is not a real word but I think it applies here nonetheless. I came home today after visiting with some friends (more on this later) and mom tells me Jeff called. Apparently he left a message for me to call and that it was “kind of” urgent. I was a little worried because in four days I'm moving to California to room with him. Well, the news was that he received an email this morning – out of the blue – from someone in Boston. Apparently they want to know if he was interested in interviewing for a job. The ironic thing is Jeff and I have been joking since I made the move to South Carolina almost two years ago that we should go our separate ways for a few years and then meet up somewhere and be roommates. Where would we meet up? Boston was always the town at the top of our list. I decided a few months ago to move to California but talk about timing! We were both kind of ticked and then we realized that many people don't get the opportunity to choose between one amazing job – let alone two jobs in cities on either coast. Too soon to say about any move back east but jeez.
Also, I spent three hours today catching up with some friends from high school. The four of us actually went to Woodstock '99 together so it was a mini-reunion without all the music and fires. (You have to have the utmost respect for friends who will spend four days with each other in a tent despite it being summer and only having access to portable toilets and community showers with cold water.) We reminisced and talked about jobs, spouses, kids, old friends, Halloween in Athens, never growing up or old, looking the same and everything in between. None of us talk now on a regular basis, but it was comfortable to pick up where we left off. There was a lot of laughter and even a few tears. I don't think any of us planned to be where we are at this point in our lives, and the amazing thing is we're all content. Sure, things could be different, but we've made the most of what has happened to us. I have so much love and respect for this trio. We really should make it an annual get-together. We could call it the original pimp and whores tour.
