A new venture
The weekend before last, when I went up to Durham with Randi and got my ear sunburnt, I took my camera with the intention of finishing off the roll of film that had Lorrie's wedding pics on it so I could get them developed. The end of the weekend rolls around, we're getting ready to leave, and I realize I haven't taken a single picture. So I grab the camera and starting snapping pics of Randi's dog Winnie and Winnie's sister Maggie (who belongs to Randi's parents) while they're running around the yard.
The pictures turned out really great, and when Randi saw them, she was thrilled. She went the very next day to get enlargements. Anyway, I've been talking about trying to find some freelance photography work, but not really wanting to do anything like weddings, which are a pain in the you-know-what to shoot (not Lorrie's, which was short, sweet and simple!). So Randi suggested that I should do pet photography--how much fun will that be? There's a doggie park near our apartment where we take Winnie a lot, and they have a bulletin board, so I'm going to make a flier and post it there, and maybe take business cards and leave them at local vet offices.
And I've got a really good incentive to get things started--Randi and I went to PetSmart last weekend and it was adoption day. I've been kind of thinking about getting a dog when we move, and there was a shepherd mix puppy there, about 4 months old, that I absolutely fell in love with. Her name is Riley, and she looks a lot like my favorite dog growing up--black with tan on her chest, face and legs. BUT, there is an adoption fee of $150, and after paying our deposit for the house and all the extra costs that come with moving--well, that's going to be a little hard to do. So wish me luck with my new side business--it was either that or prostituting myself out!

That reminds me... we discussed you taking MY picture at one point. Take my picture! I'd still like some nice shots for myself and for my family so maybe we can work something out. I'll even pay you! ;)
Sure thing--my rates are very reasonable! ;) Just kidding, you know it would be on the house. That reminds me of a story though. I had this friend (and I use the term friend very loosely) in college who was involved with the theater program. She asked me if I would take some nice photos of her that she could use for a portfolio, and I said sure. We spent an hour or two getting a bunch of shots at some scenic spots around campus. She was one of those girls who is of an average attractiveness level, but thinks she's hot (or has a low self-esteem and acts like she thinks she's hot to compensate), so I really didn't think too much of the fact that she tried to look seductive in all the photos. Well, found out later through friends that the photos weren't for an acting portfolio--they were actually for an online dating service. Ok, I admit, I've chatted with guys through those things before, but don't you think have semi-professional photos taken for that purpose alone is a little desparate?
